NEW DELHI: Subramanian Swamy, president of the Janata Party surprised, the judges and lawyers alike in the court hall saying, “I know the Prime Minister for 40 years. He is a thorough gentleman. One thing is that he told me a couple of times that he does not understand law and cannot stand lawyers.”
Swamy was explaining to the Bench of Justice G S Singhvi and Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly that there was nothing wrong on the part of the Prime Minister as far as delay on granting sanction to prosecute the then Telecom Minister A Raja was concerned.
“From the affidavit of the Prime Minister filed, I can make out that there was no delay on his side. There was no mala fide intention also on his part to delay the sanction. I say he is not responsible. “However, the affidavit shows that he did not have a clue as to what to do with my application seeking sanction to prosecute Raja. No one seems to have told him what the law on this is. The undue delay was because of the bureaucrats,” he conceded.
