Act now to save TN ryots, DMK tells Centre

Highlighting the plight of Cauvery delta farmers, DMK MP AKS Vijayan on Tuesday urged the Centre to instruct the Karnataka Government to release the 52.8 tmc water immediately to Tamil Nadu.

Making a special mention of the issue in the Lok Sabha, Vijayan informed that desperation and disappointment due to non-availability of water for irrigation has created serious stress and strain in the minds of farmers.

The non-compliance of Karnataka with the SC directions, has resulted in shortage of water even in the Mettur dam resulting in suicides of farmers, particularly in Nagappatinam district.

Vijayan informed that even the request for 6 tmcft by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has been turned down by Karnataka.
