HC notice to Centre on Vadra-DLF deal

Responding to a public interest litigation petition filed by an activist before the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, the court on Thursday issued notice to the Centre to reply to the questions raised against Robert Vadra and realty major DLF for amassing properties in an illegal manner. The court has fixed November 21 as the next date of hearing and has given three weeks to the Centre to reply.

Lucknow-based activist Nutan Thakur had first addressed a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) raising the same questions highlighted by India Against Corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal in his attack on the Vadra-DLF deal in Delhi and Haryana.

Thakur has prayed that the PMO shall be directed to conduct an inquiry into the allegations levelled against Vadra on the merit of facts.

Before filing the petition, Thakur had sent a representation to the Prime Minister enclosing the allegations made by Kejriwal. She said despite denials by the DLF and Vadra, some of the questions remain unanswered, including how a company could grow to be valued at Rs 500 crore with an initial investment of just Rs 50 lakh.

Hence, the letter said, it is imperative for the government to inquire into these serious allegations through the Income Tax, Enforcement Directorate or other appropriate authorities.

Thakur has also requested the PM to explain before the public why and how the whole issue transpired.
