Pay more for cool train travel from today

AC first class, AC 2 tier, executive class and first class travellers are the only ones who will bear the brunt of this.

NEW DELHI: Rail passengers travelling in upper classes will have to pay more from Sunday. Much more than what the Railway Minister had announced in his budget.

However, AC first class, AC 2 tier, executive class and first class travellers are the only ones who will bear the brunt of this hike.

The Ministry’s plan of hiking fares and rounding them off to next highest multiple of five is going to cost the passengers more than what was announced in Parliament.

Former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi had announced a fare hike of 10p/km for first class, 15p/ km for AC 2 tier and 30p/ km for first AC, while the other hike in sleeper classes were rolled back after Mukul Roy took over.

However, for those travelling in the upper classes, the figure is not being rounded off to the next nearest multiple but to a higher price of additional five rupee, as indicated in certain calculations in memorandum submitted in Parliament.
