MUMBAI: A Class XI student in Andheri has been bludgeoned to death by his classmates, allegedly because he objected to lewd texts sent to his girlfriend. The police have arrested eight students in connection with the case.

"The accused wrote an offensive SMS to a girl after which they went to the victim's house along with others. A fight ensued after which the boy was murdered," said Suhas Warke, DCP.

Late on Tuesday evening, the main accused along with a dozen friends, armed with sticks, went to the home of the victim. When they failed to find Ansh at his home, they abducted his brother.

Ansh was then told to come and get his brother at a designated spot. When he reached the spot, the gang of boys attacked him with sticks.

According to the police, Ansh tried to run but he was chased down and beaten with sticks and stones. He died of severe head injuries.

"Those boys beat him up with bamboo sticks and steel rods. He ran to save his life and fell on to the road. That's when they bashed his head and killed him," said a relative of the victim.

Eight students have been arrested and 12 detained, of which three are believed to be minors.
