ND Tiwari asked to give blood sample

A bench said if the Congress leader continues to refuse to give blood despite court's order, police force can be used.

NEW DELHI: Setting aside a previous order, the Delhi High Court Friday said Congress leader N.D. Tiwari can be compelled to give his blood sample for a DNA test to decide the paternity suit of a 32-year-old man who claims to be his biological son.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said if Tiwari continues to refuse to give the blood sample despite the court's order, police force can be used against him.

It also allowed the appeal of Rohit Shekhar who claims to be Tiwari's biological son.

Shekhar had challenged the order of Justice Gita Mittal who in September 2011 said that Tiwari cannot be physically compelled or confined for submitting his blood sample for DNA analysis.
