NEW DELHI: The celebrity quotient of the Upper House is set to go up manifold. The country’s biggest cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar, is about enter Rajya Sabha as a nominated member of the President.

In a surprise move, the government forwarded 39-year-old Tendulkar, 57-year-old yesteryear Bollywood sizzler Rekha and 69-year-old industrialist Anu Agha’s names for the three nominated seats, vacated after media baroness Shobhana Bhartia, filmmaker Shyam Benegal and culture impresario Kapila Vatsyayan retired.

According to government sources, all three have sent in their consent. Of these, Tendulkar’s nomination brought maximum cheer from the all corners of the House, with members cutting across party lines welcoming the decision.
