NEW DELHI: The Opposition BJP has distanced itself from the conviction of disgraced former party chief Bangaru Laxman and said it was a matter “about his personal conduct”.
The party, however, didn’t deny the fact that Laxman continued to be a member of its national executive.
“This case is about his (Laxman’s) personal conduct. The charges levelled against him were about the deed done by him as an individual,” said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
“Within hours of the issue becoming known, the party had taken a decision that he (Bangaru) was no longer the BJP president,” he said.
