Delhi Imam gives ultimatum to UP Government

Shahi Imam of the Delhi Jama Masjid, Maulana Imam Bukhari has reacted sharply to the alleged humiliation of a Muslim cleric by UP minister Mohammad Azam Khan and demanded that the ruling Samajwadi party must sack the controversial minister or be prepared to face the consequences.

Talking to Express from Delhi, the Imam said that Khan had gone to Meerut on July 30, when the alleged incident took place.

“It would not be tolerated. By retaining Khan in the Cabinet and the Samajwadi Party, party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was humiliating the entire Muslim community,” said Bukhari, who claimed that in the name of the Muslim community, Khan was duping the SP leadership and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

There is not much love lost between Khan and the Imam who have been at loggerheads for some time now. And Khan had warned the Imam on several occasions that the religious leaders should not meddle in politics.
