Youth creates panic at Amritanandamayi Math

A youth hailing from Bihar tried to create trouble in the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, while the routine public darshan of Mata Amritanandamayi was in progress on Wednesday noon.

The youth has been identified as Satnam Singh, 23, from Bihar. 

Vice-Chairman of the Math Amritaswarupananda Puri told Express that the youth, who was seated at the far end of the darshan hall barged into the ramp and ran towards the dais where Mata was giving darshan to devotees.

“The youth looked frustrated and was shouting a religious chant. When the Math security and policemen present at the darshan hall tried to stop him from entering the dais, he attacked them. Finally, a devotee of foreign origin managed to bring him under control,” he said. A civil police officer, Joy, was injured in the attack and was admitted to the Karunagappally Hospital. Amritaswarupananda Puri said that the miscreant’s aim was not known but he created panic in the darshan hall for some time and kept the devotees, Math security and staff on their toes. Karunagappally police took the miscreant into custody.

Police said that after initial questioning,the mental state of the miscreant was not found to be stable.

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan visited the Amritanandamayi Math on Wednesday evening and held discussions with the Math authorities.
