Proud to be an Indian, says Chief Justice Kapadia

Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia Wednesday said he was proud to be an Indian where the small Parsi community could have one of its members heading the country's apex court.

"I am proud to be an Indian where one from 1.6 lakh Parsis can aspire to the head of the Supreme Court," he said at a function organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association on the occasion of India's 66th Independence Day.

Making a comparison with the state of affairs in the neighbouring countries, Chief Justice Kapadia said: "These things don't happen in neighbouring countries and this needs to be appreciated."
