Women MPs meet PM

Faced with growing outrage across the country over the brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old girl, a delegation of women members of Parliament met with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, to press for additional measures to ensure that such cases do not occur in future.    The delegation, led by Mohsina Kidwai, met him in Parliament, which had witnessed members across party lines expressing outrage at the crime, which has left the girl with severe internal injuries. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury said that the Prime Minister heard their views for over 20 minutes. “We discussed the need for fast-track courts for such cases,” she said.

The PM told the MPs that he had directed the Home Minister to take all measures to ensure the prevention of such incidents.
