Delhi gang-rape: Protests continue

Angry protests continued across the national capital on Thursday, over the gangrape of the 23-yr old student on a moving bus on Sunday.

Protesters, mostly students, organised demonstrations at various places, including Safdarjung Hospital, India Gate and All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Students from Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Lal Nehru University and Indraprastha University along with common citizens organised protests in support of the  victim. Amrish Ranjan Pandey of the National Student’s Union of India(NSUI) demanded a speedy trial with most severe punishment for the culprits.

“Justice for the victim must be ensured. If there is a fear of law, obviously such perverts will think 100 times before committing such a crime. We also wish to awaken the mindset of the people of Delhi to change their attitude towards women so that they are not treated as objects of violence in society,” Pandey said.

More students from Jawaharlal Nehru University poured in at the hospital in the evening holding candles and placards. Students alleged that government is not taking serious action against the offenders resulting in less conviction of such accused.
