Nithari case: Koli guilty of five-year-old girl's murder

A special court here Saturday held domestic help Surender Koli guilty of the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl, one of the 19 young women and children from Noida's Nithari village whose body parts were found in a drain.

Special Judge S. Lal would announce the quantum of punishment Monday, said Central Bureau of Investigation lawyer Jai Prakash Sharma.

In a 73-page judgment, the court said that Koli was guilty of murder, rape, kidnap and causing disappearance of evidence.

The court observed that to hide the identity of the victim, her name in the documents had been changed to Kavita, instead of her original name.

Of the 19 Nithari cases of abduction, rape and murder, the CBI filed chargesheets in 16 cases, which shocked the nation with the brutality and hints of cannibalism.

Sharma said Kavita's case was the fifth out of the 16 cases in which the formal set of charges were filed.

In four earlier cases Koli was awarded capital punishment. His employer and businessman Maninder Singh Pandher is a co-accused in six cases.
