Gangrape victim critical but stable: Doctors

After undergoing a small operation, the23-year-old gang-rape victim's condition was today critical but stable asdoctors continued to monitor her health.

Doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital here said the girl isstable but critical and is on ventilator electively. She underwent a"small operation" yesterday after medical examination suggested fluidcollection in her abdomen.

The victim's platelet count has been fluctuating sinceSaturday and it stood at a low 19,000 during the last observation yesterday.Normal platelet count in a healthy individual is between 150,000 and 450,000per micro-litre of blood.

The doctors said sepsis, a severe blood infection that canlead to organ failure, is one of their major concerns and noted that thebilirubin level of the victim has increased to 6.3.

The paramedical student, who was gangraped last Sunday nightin a moving bus here, was also administered another four bottles ofplatelet-rich plasma. The girl is also suffering from high fever, the doctorssaid.
