Acknowledging that there is a"sense of national outrage" over the gang rape incident here,President Pranab Mukherjee today assured a delegation of BJPleaders that he would convey to Prime Minister Manmohan Singhtheir demand for convening a special session of Parliament.

"The anger and agony of the youth is understandable. There is a sense of national outrage," the President told theBJP delegation led by senior leader L K Advani in whichLeaders of Opposition in both the Houses -- Sushma Swaraj andArun Jaitley were also present.

The President, who also met a number women's delegationsled by Brinda Karat, told them that he shares their anguishand understands the anger and strong reaction of the youth tothe incident.

But the question is how to respond and convert it intostrict action which can be implemented without delay,Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony said.

Mukherjee told the delegation whatever is theconstitutional responsibility of the President, he will act asper the powers vested in him and take up the matter with thePrime Minister and Home Minister Sushilkaumar Shinde.

However, he felt that the anger of the youth should notovercome reason and there is need for practical action.
