NHRC asks Pilibhit DM to act on tiger menace

The National Human Rights commission (NHRC) has directed the District Magistrate of Pilibhit, UP, to take appropriate steps to keep in check the increasing threat that the tigers pose to the inhabitants of the district.

The apex human rights panel passed this order, while disposing of a petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripthy in this regard. The complainant pointed out that three persons were killed and several injured by the tigers, which were coming out of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve.

The tigers have become the worst fear factor for the people living in the area. The forest officials were not sensitive and not taking appropriate action to control the menace of tiger encounters faced by the locals in the area, he added.
