NEW DELHI: Welcoming the Gujarat High Court order rejecting a petition that sought Chief Minister Narendra Modi's deposition before the Nanavati panel probing the 2002 communal riots, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said that justice had prevailed.

"It a relief and we are thankful to the judiciary. Justice has prevailed. Fortunately, we have an independent judiciary and they have not been able to do anything against Narendra Modi in court," BJP leader Balbir Punj said.

He said civil society groups had fabricated affidavits against Modi but had not succeeded in their efforts against him.
