LUCKNOW: The Election Commission has found itself in a rather tight spot with political parties led by the ruling Congress at the Centre unleashing a volley of criticism   against it.

Despite the grave provocation and the no-holds barred onslaught, the EC has failed to rein in the loose cannons.

Besides Union Ministers Beni Prasad and Salman Khurshid another vocal critic of the EC was UP Chief Minister Mayawati, who had described the Commission as “anti-Dalit” and  alleged that “it was dancing to the tune of the Congress”, after the Commission ordered that the statues of the BSP leader and the party symbol be covered.Subsequently, though, Mayawati stopped criticising the Commission when Chief Election Commissioner Y S Qureshi told her to mind her language.
