NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three people - two of them Friday - in a multi-crore scam related to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Uttar Pradesh.

"We arrested Abhay Kumar Vajpayee, the former UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) managing director, Thursday night; and then S.P. Ram, former director general, family welfare, and Sourav Jain, owner of a private firm, Friday morning," a CBI official told IANS.

The arrests came a day after the agency carried out inter-state searches at about 60 locations, including the residence of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and his associates, in an effort to unravel the NRHM scam.
