NEW DELHI: India is ready to work with any type of government in Pakistan, though it would prefer a democratic dispensation, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said here on Thursday.
Mathai was responding to a question on whether the current “weak democracy” in Pakistan was a problem for India.
The Foreign Secretary said India has had a “checkered history” in dealing with Pakistan in the past. “Be that as it may, we can choose friends but you can’t choose neighbours. Whether you like it or not, you need to find a way to get along and manage a normal relationship irrespective of who is in Govt in Pakistan.”
