KOLKATA: Blaming the Mamata Banerjee Government for increasing farmers’ suicides in West Bengal, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat said at least 24 farmers have committed suicide in the state in the last few months at the back of faulty policies of the Centre and the state government’s failure to put in place a proper procurement mechanism.

“The TC-led Government came into power and made a lot of promises and pronouncements of how they will bring about a change. But in the last few months, we have seen the misrule of the government...24 farmers have committed suicide...The procurement machinery is not in place and this is the responsibility of the government. The earlier method has been dismantled by the government,” said Karat at the four-day Central Committee meeting here.
