NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) has, so far, recovered Rs 41.94 crore of unaccounted money from the five election-bound states. A sum of Rs 29.60 crore has been recovered from Uttar Pradesh, Rs 11.39 crore from Punjab, Rs 0.48 crore from Uttarakhand, and Rs 0.47 crore from Manipur.

The EC has constituted flying squads to track the movement of money, which could be used to sway voters in the polls. The EC is following the Tamil Nadu model of pro-active tracking of illicit wealth (that had produced handsome dividends in the state Assembly elections in the state) in the  election-bound states.
