GJM to contest polls

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Saturday announced that it would participate in the elections to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). The decision was taken at the end of the party’s core committee meeting.

“We will fight in all the 45 seats and we will fight alone. There will be no alliance. We will win all the seats,” said Harka Bahadur Chhetri, GJM MLA.

The hill party had been dithering on participating in the polls after the party rejected the recommendations of Justice Shyamal Sen Committee report on inclusion of new territory. The report had recommended the inclusion of five mouzas as against the GJM’s demand for 398 mouzas. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tried to appease the GJM by setting up a fact-verification panel.
