The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), examining the CAG report on the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, on Monday failed to get a convincing reply from the Sports Ministry on the reasons behind the appointment of Suresh Kalmadi as the chief of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, “despite strong reservations expressed by three ministers against the move”.
And top ministry officials, who appeared before the PAC, failed to give a satisfactory explanation for the reasons behind the appointment and the continuation of Kalmadi as the OC chief, sources said. The officials were grilled on the basis of the letters written by three former sports ministers-- Sunil Dutt, Mani Shankar Aiyar and M S Gill to the PM.
