Advani call to nix draft JPC report

Expressing “outrage” at the leaked draft Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on 2G mentioning former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name “for having knowingly caused losses to the national exchequer”, senior BJP leader and NDA working chairman L K Advani on Saturday appealed to all the JPC members to reject the panel’s draft report “in toto”, at its April 25 meeting.

Following a meeting of the NDA floor leaders at his residence here on the eve of the residual Budgetary session of Parliament Advani said, “the NDA totally condemns the manner in which the JPC draft is charging the former PM A B Vajpayee, with knowingly having caused losses to the exchequer.”

“This is utterly and absolutely condemnable. Such conclusions in the draft report of the JPC, while simultaneously clearing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s name through a variety of sleights of hand, is an act of unmatched perfidy,” he said.

The octogenarian BJP leader further said that by accusing Vajpayee, “a spotless, most successful former Prime Minister” -- who has been keeping unwell for some time -- “of wrongdoing, the Congress leaders had violated all norms of decency”.

Advani added that the leaked draft report had also charged former NDA Ministers Arun Shourie and Jaswant Singh, “recognised for their unimpeachable integrity”, of wrongdoing during their respective tenures.

“This can only be termed as perverse,” he said.  According to Advani, the “coal allocation scam” and reports of the Centre vetting the CBI report on it will be raised by the Opposition on the opening day of the Parliament session on April 22.
