It’s unfortunate: Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday termed the allegations against Rajya Sabha deputy chairman P J Kurien in the Suryanelli sex scandal ‘unfortunate’ and ‘painful.’

“The allegations raised by the victim against Kurien 17 years ago were later found baseless,” he said. In a special media briefing, Chandy said all the culprits in the case were booked during the Antony Government’s tenure. Refuting investigating officer K K Joshua’s allegations, Chandy said the team leader Siby Mathews had reported that Kurien was innocent. The LDF had rejected the investigation report filed during the UDF rule and three probes were initiated during the Nayanar Government rule.

Though Kurien was not found guilty, a private petition was filed in the Supreme Court and the apex court too found him innocent, Chandy said. The CM said that the UDF Government considered the case with due importance and executed its responsibilities well.

VICTIM writes to CM

The victim in the Suryanelli sex case had written to Chandy requesting him to probe the role of Kurien in the case. She also urged him to find those who were left out by the probe team.
