An inspector of the CBI unit here has submitted an affidavit to Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) against a 1994 batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, alleging the officer had disclosed information about the CBI raid on the house of Vijay Singla, nephew of former Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Challenging his transfer orders, inspector Balbir Singh has named Mahesh Aggarwal, CBI Chandigarh’s Deputy Inspector General of Police for tipping off Singla about CBI’s raid on his Sector 28 house on May 3.
“The alleged involvement of Respondent no. 3, DIG Mahesh Aggarwal, in leakage of the raid on Singla’s house (Railgate case), led to delay of few hours and destroying of evidence due to his friendship with Singla,” he stated in the affidavit.
Aggarwal, however, denied these allegations, and said there were serious complaints against the inspector which had led to his transfer to Delhi.
He said the inspector was not a part of the raiding team, and was merely trying to divert attention from the reason behind his transfer.
The Delhi CBI has already issued a statement denying any leak of information in Chandigarh, he added.
The CBI inspector has also stated before CAT that he was shifted out as he did not listen to Aggarwal, who had sought removal of the name of MC Joint Commissioner Rajiv Gupta -- apparently related or known to Aggarwal -- from the patwari case.
Meanwhile, former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan, has demanded resignation of Aggarwal and alleged that the officer had leaned on Central Bureau of Investigationofficials to clear the name of MC Joint Commissioner in a corruption case, involving Balraj Singh, a patwari of the MC in a case of illegal gratification.
Mahesh Kumar, a former General Manager of the Western Railways, was appointed Member (Staff) of the Railway Board on May 2. But he wanted to be posted as Member (Electrical) for which he was ready to pay `10 crore to Singla.
Bangalore based GG Tronics India Pvt Ltd managing director N R Manjunath had arranged for the bribe instalment of `90 lakh and it was paid to Singla in the presence of middleman Sandeep Goyal by two ‘courier boys’. The Central Bureau of Investigation is looking into the ties between the men.
