CBI registers PE into Army land deal

The CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry into a defence land transfer deal, where in land belonging to the Army in Jodhpur and measuring 4.84 acres was transferred to a trust controlled by the Jodhpur royal family.

An officer of the additional director general rank is under the CBI scanner in this regard. The investigating agency would gather information on the deal and its transfer process, following which it would take a decision on whether to register a case or not.

The land transfer allegedly took place in 2007, which was a gross violation of the Defence Ministry rules. Subsequent to the transfer, commercial construction was undertaken on the land valued at over `15 crore.

An RTI activist from Jodhpur has alleged that the builder, whose name has cropped up in the land deal, is also involved in other cases of illegal transfer involving defence land.
