The country’s richest businessman, Mukesh Ambani, is now a VIP even in terms of security accorded to him. Following a threat perception, the union home ministry has approved Z category security for him.
The Reliance Industries Limited chairman will now have trained commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force protecting him all the time. The elite personnel with sophisticated weapons will form a protective ring around Ambani whenever he travels within the country. He will be provided escort and pilot cars.
Ambani was given additional security by Mumbai Police recently after he received a letter purportedly written by terrorist group Indian Mujahideen threatening to harm him for investing in Gujarat and supporting Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Now, the union home ministry approved additional security after central security agencies that conducted a security and threat analysis recommended that Ambani be provided round-the-clock armed security cover.
Ambani, will now have close to 30 CRPF commandos protecting him all the time. The personnel will be drawn from the force’s unit based in Uttar Pradesh.
Z category is the second highest level of VIP security, after Z plus. The number of personnel, weapons, and vehicles vary according to the category. Sources said this would be the first time the CRPF is providing VIP security to a private person on the lines of similar cover it extends to government functionaries in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
