Railgate: CBI quizzes Board chairman

The CBI has recorded the statement of Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal in connection with its ongoing probe into the Rs 10 crore bribery scandal. CBI sleuths questioned Mittal for around three hours on Thursday.

He was asked questions regarding the elevation of the then General Manager (West) Mahesh Kumar to the Railway Board as Member (Staff).

He was also quizzed as to why Kumar was allowed to retain the additional charge of General Manager (West) even after he was promoted.

On May 3, the CBI arrested former Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla for allegedly accepting a part payment of bribe amounting to `90 lakh sent by Mahesh Kumar to get him posted as Member (Electrical) from his position of Member (Staff).

Kumar, a businessman, railway electrical equipment supplier Manjunath, middleman Sandeep Goyal and four others were held in connection with the case.
