Monsoon floods: Centre extends complete assistance

Over 1,000 tourists are still stranded in Rekong-Peo, Himachal Pradesh and around 34 people have lost their lives in different parts of Uttarakhand due to floods, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said on Tuesday.

The Centre has already dispatched seven helicopters for rescue operations in Uttarakhand. Union Home Secretary R K Singh said medicines and food items have been air-dropped in flood-hit areas of Himachal and Uttarakhand.

“We have provided seven helicopters to Uttarakhand. The state government has also hired four private helicopters. We are also providing helicopters to Himachal Pradesh. Hopefully all stranded people will be evacuated by Tuesday. We are in regular touch with both the state governments. The Home Minister also spoke to the Uttarakhand CM and assured all help,” Singh said.

A statement issued by the PMO said the Prime Minister has directed all central agencies to help in rescue and relief work in the state.
