Interacting with reporters here on Monday, A K Antony said there was no proposal to involve military in the anti-Naxal operations.
“We have to strengthen the local police and the para-military. We have units in those Maoist areas and extend our support without direct involvement,” the Defence Minister added.
Talking about the recent tragic naxal attack in Chattisgarh, Antony said that IAF helicopters flew round the clock for rescue and evacuation operations. Coming down hard on the Maoists, Antony said, “There are proper bodies and methods to oppose government policies, and violence had no place in a democracy.”
On the India training SL army, Antony said, “India’s cooperation with SL in selected areas only. Responding to the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu, we have taken a decision not to provide training to Sri Lankan military personnel in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
