Though it is well known that all that glitters are not gold, the Mumbai Customs have realized all that sparkle may not be diamonds. After enthusiastically seizing the crown of Srishti Rana, winner of Asia Pacific pageant, it has now turned that crown was merely a replica and the diamonds on it turned out to be glass.
Mumbai airport Customs had stopped Rana and inquired about the duty paid on the crown as it was alleged to have diamond encrusted jewels. The officials seized the crown even though she was allowed to wear it for a short while outside the airport. The crown was later sent to an official valuer to ascertain its value.
However it was found that there were not jewels on the crown and they were only glass pieces. The crown it self was made of brass metal. Following the report customs officials decided to release the crown back to Rana. If there were indeed diamonds on the crown, Rana would have to pay 36 per cent of the value of the diamonds to the customs officials.
However, more than the seizure of the crown, it was Rana’s endorsement of Narendra Modi as PM that came as surprise. “Modi is a good leader and I want him to become the PM,” Rana had said.
