Presidential standards awarded to IAF Units

President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday presented Presidential standards to 220 Squadron and 32 Squadron of the Air Force at a function held at Halwara base, near Ludhiana.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said the two flying units have a distinguished record of services to the nation. Their long history of valour and sacrifice bear testimony to the highest standards of professionalism and excellence that were the hallmark of the Air Force. “With a deep sense of gratitude and heartfelt appreciation, the nation honours them today for their selfless devotion and exceptional service,” he added.

He said that as an important pillar of our defence preparedness, the Air Force had always risen to the occasion admirably and ensured a fitting response to any threat to our national security.  He also said that the brave men and women in blue have displayed tremendous courage and determination, acquitting themselves with great élan time and again. They have earned the admiration and respect of a grateful nation as they continue to drive IAF’s ongoing transformation with their steadfast dedication and commitment. Group Captain Sharad Aneja, Commanding Officer, 220 Squadron, received the Standard for 220 Squadron was received by  and the Standard for 32 Squadron was received by Group Captain GVNK Varma, Commanding Officer, 32 Squadron.

The parade witnessed a spectacular fly-past primarily consisting of the aircraft flown by the units being awarded the President’s Standards. A total of 12 aircrafts participated in the fly-past. The fly-past commenced with three Mi-17 IV helicopters in Victory formation with the main aircraft carrying the national flag and the other two aircraft carrying the IAF flag.

The fly-past was coordinated with the National Salute given by the parade to the President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. The fly-past of the three Su-30MKI aircraft was timed with the presentation of the President’s Standards to 220 Sqn.
