Tejpal case: Victim to give statement before Goa police

The former Tehelka scribe who accused Tarun Tejpal of sexual assault is expected to give her statement to the Goa police on Tuesday in the presence of Magistrate.

The Goa police had established contacts with journalist who resides in the city. Initially, it was being speculated that a six-member team from Goa Police would record her statement on Tuesday, however, it is being learnt that the scribe would be going to Goa to record her statement before the police as well as the Magistrate.

A statement before the Magistrate would be recorded under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Though the statement given before the Magistrate is irrevocable, those close to the woman said that she is determined to take her case to logical conclusion.

Meanwhile, Women’s Rights activist Kavitha Krishnan blamed Tejpal and associates on the attempts on the online social forums to question the character and intentions of the woman.

“This is an typical reaction from persons facing such allegations. Asaram did it and so did Tejpal With all his pretensions to be progressive, his conduct now not just reveals a different side of him, it also makes him look guilty,” said Krishnan.

She pointed out how one of the posts made in an online social forum titled ‘The Complete Truth’ had questioned how the woman being labeled as victim/survivor despite being an independent journalist residing in Mumbai on her own terms. The post had also questioned her personal and professional aspirations.

Meanwhile, the Goa police are in the process of building what is claimed to be a water-tight case.
