Power, housing top BJP promises

The saffron party assures that ‘every decision taken by the government will be put on the website’

The BJP on Tuesday released its manifesto for the Delhi Assembly polls promising houses for poor, solar power plant unit for every home, 25,000-strong women protection force, free bicycles for hawkers, cleaning up the Yamuna and up to 12 gas cylinders at concessional rates. The party also promised to bring an end to inflation which led to ‘tremendous’ rise in price essential commodities.

The manifesto was released at the BJP’s Delhi unit headquarters here in the presence of senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, Delhi in-charge Nitin Gadkari and state leaders.

“Every decision taken by the Government will be put on the website,” promised BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Harshvardhan while telling that the government would usher in transparency in the administration.

The party manifesto promised to bring power distribution companies under the purview of RTI.

“All the houses of Delhi shall be fitted with Solar Power Plant. Priority will be given to providing pucca houses to the poor and ending price rise and corruption,” said Harshvardhan and assured that hawkers shall be provided free bicycles, 12 cooking gas cylinders for consumers at concessional rates and measures like the  security to women via a 25,000-strong Delhi women protection force.

The BJP chief ministerial candidate promised that he would make efforts to get full statehood for Delhi after the BJP came to power at the Centre.

“We shall ensure good governance, justice to all including justice to the riot victims of 1984, setup Price Commission to curb price rise, improve PDS, introduce competition in power distribution, reduce power tariff and make Delhi a surplus state in power by encouraging use of alternative sources of power,” said Harshvardhan.

The manifesto also has novel initiatives like a 24-hour helpline for the security of the people of North East living in Delhi, setting up Minority Welfare and Madrasa Board, health insurance for all the people of Delhi at the premium of `6 per day, improve the environment, control pollution, beautification of the Yamuna, construction of animal shelters and Gaushalas.

Other promises made by the BJP include provision for clean drinking water at low rates to every citizen, improvement of sewage system in Delhi, integrated public transport system, construction of public conveniences and toilet complexes to all, increase in the pension of handicapped, widows, helpless women and senior citizens by `500.
