Khaps Threaten to Launch Agitation Against Gowda

Khap Panchayats threatened to protest against Union Law Minister Gowda for terming Khaps as "unconstitutional" , demand his removal from Cabinet.

JIND: Khap Panchayats on Saturday threatened to launch an agitation against Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda for his comments terming Khaps as "unconstitutional" and demanded his removal from the Cabinet.

Speaking at a meeting at Jaat Dharamshala, Sarvajaat Khap Panchayat national convener Tekram Kandela said the Khaps will

launch a massive agitation if Gowda is not removed from the Cabinet post by Modi.

Gowda's statement about the Khaps contradicts the views of Modi and state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Kandela said, adding, both leaders consider Khaps as good.

Kandela said Gowda does not have any knowledge about Khaps and that he has worsened things for the prime Minister by making this statement.

Khaps are not responsible for honour killings, Kandela added.

On Thursday, Gowda had told Lok Sabha that all 'customarycourts', Khap panchayats and kangaroo courts are "against the law and against the Constitution".

Akhil Bharatiya Jaat Mahasabha President Omprakash Pahal said they were against his comments and unless Gowda withdraws

his comments, the Mahasabha will lend support to the agitation carried out by the Khaps.

A woman head of Satrol Khap, Sudesh Chaudhary said before dubbing the Khaps as unconstitutional, Gowda should carry out

a survey in north India and review the humanitarian works done by them. He should introspect and withdraw his comments otherwise even women will come out in full force in the agitation against him, she added.
