KOLKATA: The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal on Sunday decided to step up its campaign against the BJP government at the Centre over the CBI arrest of state Transport Minister Madan Mitra for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
At a high-level meeting, held at state Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s residence, the party chalked out its strategy to counter Mitra’s arrest and organise demonstrations all over the state.
Mamata has instructed party MPs to stage protest in the Lok Sabha on Monday while the sit in demonstration by sportspersons near the statue of former footballer Goshto Pal will continue.
The party has suffered a setback with the arrest of Mitra, one of the prominent leaders of the TMC.
As such, the TMC leadership has decided to adopt an attacking mode to boost the morale of its workers and has directed district units to organise protest programmes all over the state.
