JHANSI: Days after the ruling NDA government at the Centre suggested that conversion could be banned, its minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti today said there should be no ban on conversion if someone prefers it at his will.

"I think there should be no ban on conversion, if someone wants it at his will. However, there should be no forcible conversion," Jyoti, who was here to attend a programme, told reporters.

The Union minister had recently sparked a row with her controversial remark. Both the houses of Parliament saw disruption for several days before the minister apologised.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu said on December 3, "If the House agrees, the government will have no problem in bringing an anti-conversion bill."

Defending saints, Jyoti said that every saint does not belong to the category of Rampal and they should be respected.

"The culture and tradition of the country is strengthened due to saints and they should be given due respect," she said.
