JK Poll Campaign: 92 Incidents of Violence, 117 Injured

JAMMU: Poll bound Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 92 incidents of violence during the campaigning in five-phased elections in the state, in which 117 persons were injured.      

As many as 92 incidents of violence relating to the poll campaign were reported from different parts of the state, which resulted in injury to 117 people, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Umang Narula told PTI.    

Four phases of elections for 67 Assembly seats were held in Kashmir Valley, Ladakh region and part of Jammu region so far and fifth and final phase of polling will take place in Jammu region's Rajouri, Kathua and Jammu districts on Dec 20. In order to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the state, the authorities had taken several precautionary measures, he said.

Under these measures, as many as 11,725 licensed arms were deposited and 6 licences were impounded, Narula said.   

Besides, 2,511 cases were filed under preventive sections of CrPC, 1,793 persons bounded over and 3,045 persons were bounded down under CrPC, he said.     

As many as 5,633 non-bailable warrants were also executed, the CEO said.
