MUMBAI: Actor Preity Zinta, who is known for being vocal against crimes, has filed a complaint of molestation, abuse and threatening against industrialist Ness Wadia, her former beau, with Marine Drive police station here.

In her complaint, Zinta stated that Wadia stalked, molested and verbally abused her in full public view inside Wankhede Stadium on May 30 during Indian Premiere League (IPL) match between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings.

Zinta, 39, and Wadia, 44, were present in Garware Pavilion in their capacity of co-owners of the Kings XI Punjab while the match was going on.

Zinta reached the police station on Thursday midnight to file the complaint. She left the city for an undisclosed destination after that. The police on Friday converted it into a First Information Report (FIR). They have charged Wadia with assault with an intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and gesturing intended to insult a woman’s modesty.

The FIR mentioned that Wadia was harassing Zinta though they separated five years ago. “Wadia was stalking her. She changed her sitting place again and again that night but he followed her. He forcibly pulled her by her hand and there was some heated argument between them. It turned physical and he manhandled her,” an officer said on the basis of her complaint.

Wadia has refuted the charges. “I am shocked at the complaint and the allegations made against me are totally false and baseless,” he mentioned in a statement. He claimed that it was impossible for him to assault Zinta as she was always surrounded by bouncers.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said that his department will examine witnesses and look for more evidence before taking any action. Maharashtra State Women Commission member Chitra Wagh demanded action against Wadia in 24 hours.
