SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police chief Peter Hanaman Tuesday admitted that some of the state's policemen were maintaining links with Garo insurgents.
"We have some bad apples in the police force. We have also dismissed some of them from their services, besides some of them have been booked under the Meghalaya Prevention Detention Act (MPDA)," he told journalists during a 'meet the press' programme at the police headquarters.
"There are some who are still maintaining links but they are on police radar," the director general of police said.
The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), an insurgent outfit operating in the Garo Hills region and fighting for a separate Garoland state, is headed by former police officer Champion R. Sangma.
Champion Sangma is presently in Shillong jail after he was arrested from near the Bangladesh border in 2012.
Opposition legislators, under the banner of the Meghalaya People's Front, Tuesday flew to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to demand a CBI probe into the nexus between politicians and militants.
