Talks for Asean Maritime Links on

By setting up a joint working group with Asean for connectivity, India is hoping to strengthen maritime links.

Secretary (east), Ministry of External Affairs Anil Wadhwa said that after a brainstorming session under Asean India centre, recommendations were being finalised for talks with Asean member countries for setting up a joint working group.

“This joint working group will, inter alia, seek to establish a maritime link between India, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam,” he said. Wadhwa noted that if maritime connectivity was strengthened, “production chains would be established from the Mekong region to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the Mumbai-Bengaluru-Chennai Industrial Corridor.”
