Now, Modi to Restore Varanasi's Old Glory

Narendra Modi vowed to take steps to ensure Varanasi’s rise as the nation’s spiritual guru and India’s emergence as a major global power.

VARANASI: Basking in the BJP’s runaway success in the Lok Sabha polls, the party’s PM-in-waiting Narendra Modi on Saturday vowed to take steps to ensure Varanasi’s rise as the nation’s spiritual guru and India’s emergence as a major global power.

Addressing a gathering on the banks of the mighty ganges, the saffron party’s poster boy also announced that the country would be cleared of pollution and dirt and the efforts in this regard would kick off right from here.

Modi said that he was denied the chance to address the public here by the Election  Commission, which refused permission for holding a public rally. And he thanked the people for their historic mandate and said he was grateful for their wholehearted support.

As for the Opposition parties, the BJP leader said that earlier the country had witnessed  the political parties forging alliances to form the government, but now they were firming up ties to cobble together an Opposition, which had been decimated.

Recalling the Father of Nation’s commitment to hygiene and cleanliness, he said the Mahatma had launched various campaigns for ensuring cleanliness. And Modi said he would not lag behind in this mission.
