NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday issued a showcause notice to the Delhi government seeking an explanation on why financial help was not provided to the 12 African women, who were victims of AAP leader and former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti’s “racial prejudice”.

The Commission also sought a status report from the city police regarding their investigation.

The NHRC issued notice after taking into consideration their investigation division report as well as an inquiry report submitted by B L Garg, a retired Additional District and Sessions Judge. According to the report “Bharti violated the provisions of law while holding the Constitutional post”.

The probe report has given a clean chit to Malviya Nagar police officials.
