Doctors Protest Against Assault of Medical Officer by BJP Men

BUNDI: Claiming that incidents of misbehaviour with doctors are on the rise, the All Rajasthan In-Service Doctors' Association has demanded strict action against the BJP workers accused of threatening the principal medical officer of Bundi district hospital.

The association's Bundi district secretary Dr. Anil Saini said "we want stern action against those who had threatened principal medical officer Dr. Gajanand Verma" and added that the doctors would continue their protest till action is taken against the accused.

All medical officers of the district have been wearing black band around their arms to protest against the incident, and at the district hospital patients were being treated under a tent outside the hospital building for the past four days.

When contacted, principal medical officer Verma said some BJP workers including party's Bundi city president Sushil Metha and former municipality vice chairman Anurag Gautam, had reached his office on September 24 and threatened him.

Dr. Verma said the BJP workers demanded that a male attendant, who had been transferred to paediatric ward, be sent back to his earlier posting at medical ward.

"Reshuffling of medical and nursing staff is done with an aim to improve medical arrangements and facilities... But unfortunately it was not acceptable to BJP workers and they threatened me with dire consequences if their demand were not met," Dr. Verma said.

Bundi City police station SHO Tarun Kant Somani said following a complaint by the principal medical officer a case under section 353 and 186 of IPC has been lodged against the BJP leaders but no arrest has been made so far. "However, investigation into the matter is on," the SHO added.

BJP, however, rejected all allegations against the party as "baseless and false". BJP city president Metha said "the doctors are trying to divert the people's attention from the

mismanagement at the hospital by levelling false allegations against BJP workers".

Meanwhile, a lady doctor at Daikedha community health centre has accused a sarpanch of misbehaving with her.

Daikedha police station SHO Arvind Sharma said Dr. Manisha Singhal lodged a complaint of bullying and threatening her against the village sarpanch, Khemraj Meena. On the report, a case has been lodged against the sarpanch under sections 332 and 353 of IPC, the SHO said.
