CHENNAI: Railway tickets can now be procured on android phones after the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) launched their android application developed in-house by the railway subsidiary.
According to details available on the google play store, users can book and cancel tickets, upcoming journey alerts can be obtained and availability can be checked. New users can register directly from the application without having to go through the website. Users will not be able to book tickets from 8 AM to 12 PM, which includes the two hour window for booking tatkal tickets. The app requires Android 4.1 and above versions, according to playstore.
The application had around 5-10 thousand downloads and an average rating of 4.2 rated by 1513 users as of Monday evening. "The application looks neat, but there is no provision to store the card or password details. However, it is very fast. I was able to book a ticket in less than 2 minutes," said a manager of an online e-commerce website, who downloaded the android app on Monday.
