NEW DELHI: The DDA has received a total of 7.5 lakh applications for it flagship 'Housing Scheme 2014', a senior official of the urban body today said.

The new scheme which offers over 25,000 flats across various categories came to a close yesterday and the housing authority is gearing up for the draw of the lots.   The fate of these applicants would be decided next month, as the housing authority has kept November 5, as the tentative date for the draw of the lots.

"We have received 7.5 lakh application for the scheme and we sold about 17 lakh brochures through our counters and various empanelled bank branches. The tentative date for the draw is still November 5," the official said.

The 'DDA Housing Scheme 2014' was launched on September 1 and the last date earlier was earlier decided as October 9 but on account of overwhelming response and intervening festive season, DDA had extended the last date of the scheme till October 15.

The DDA website had crashed within a few hours of its launch on September 1, prompting authorities to upgrade its server to meet the "exponentially increased user traffic".

In its first two days, the website had received 18 lakh hits with 11 lakh hits on the day of the launch itself.

It has so far received over 3.5 million hits since the launch of the flagship programme. Top officials said that "a dedicated server would be temporarily set up to cope with the anticipated rush of online traffic during the draw time."

"We will be setting up a dedicated served around the last week of this month, and it will have load-balancing facilities, to avert chances of crashing the website due to heavy traffic," Director (Systems) of DDA, V S Tomar said.

"The website had crashed during the launch and the draw time of the last scheme (DDA 2010 Housing Scheme) also, and we so we are taking all precautionary measures this time," he added.

The procedure for the draw has also been uploaded on the website and applicants can now also check the status of their application online.

The draw would be overseen by a three-member team headed by a retired high court judge. It would also have two IT professionals, one from IIT-Delhi and another from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to supervise the draw.

The scheme offering 25,034 flats, out of which 22,627 are one-bed room apartments was a major draw for people this year.

It offers flats ranging from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore across various categories, viz - EWS, LIG, MIG, HIG, Janta flats and one-room apartments.     In its last scheme, 'DDA Housing Scheme 2010', 11 lakh applications were received for 15,000 flats.
