PLA Incursion to Dominate WMCC Meet

NEW DELHI: Last month’s incursion by Chinese People’s Liberation Army(PLA) troops in Demchok and Chumur are likely to dominate Thursday’s meeting of the India-China Border Affairs Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination(WMCC).

This will be theWMCC’s first meeting since Narendra Modi-led BJP-NDA Government assumed office. It takes place at the official level, with the Indian side led by the Joint Secretary in-charge of the East Asia Desk in the Ministry of External Affairs. The PLA incursions had continued even when Chinese President Xi Jinping was on his maiden state visit to the country. It was only after the two Foreign Ministers met in New York that it was decided that both sides would return to their pre-crisis status quo on the disputed border.
